New York YIMBY | Third And Final Journal Squared Tower Rises In Jersey City, New Jersey

BY: MICHAEL YOUNG AND MATT PRUZNICK — New York YIMBY

The 19th-tallest building on our December construction countdown is Journal Squared‘s Tower 3, a 575-foot tall, 60-story residential skyscraper at 595 Pavonia Avenue in the Journal Square section of Jersey City, New Jersey. Designed by HWKN Architecture and Handel Architects and developed by Kushner Real Estate Group and National Real Estate Advisors, the structure is the final component in the three-tower complex that anchors the western edge of the Jersey City skyline. Tower 3 will feature the same architectural design as its two completed siblings and will rise the second highest, adding 600 more rental apartments to the total inventory. AJD Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located by the three-way intersection of Summit, Pavonia, and Central Avenues.

Work was still progressing below street level at the time of our last update in late April. Construction has proceeded swiftly in the intervening months, and the reinforced concrete superstructure is already nearing the halfway mark. Façade installation is also underway and envelopes more than a third of the constructed floors. Based on the pace of progress, the skyscraper could top out sometime next spring.

When fully finished, Journal Squared will boast a total of 1,840 residences and 36,000 square feet of dining and retail area. Tower 3 will have 18,000 square feet of residential amenities including a performance lounge, a karaoke room, recording spaces, a “makerspace” area, a coworking lounge, a lobby café, and a sky lounge. Residents of the first two buildings currently share 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities.

Journal Squared Tower 3 is anticipated to be finished in the spring of 2024.
